You’ve probably read recently that a couple of polygamists in British Columbia, Canada were arrested. At first, I thought this was a good thing. Then I read this:
“During this ceremony, the man and woman are sealed as husband and wife before God, although the marriages are not registered legally with authorities.
In the indictments against Blackmore and Oler, they are accused with one count each of having ‘practised a form of polygamy, or practised a kind of conjugal union.”‘
Huh? I thought Canada was our flaming liberal neighbor to the North. Yet, they’re arresting people for cohabiting? Are they going to arrest every Canadian who cohabits or just the ones that practice this form of religion?
To be clear, I don’t believe in cohabitation or polygamy, but I do believe in the freedom to practice religion. If the women involved in these marriages were being abused, let’s indict the men on that charge.
