I witnessed a living definition of irony last night at the Sonics-Celtics game that I attended with my dad.
There was a guy behind us who got a little drunk in the first quarter and vocal in quarters 2 – 4. At various points throughout the game, he said his catch phrases that had Dad and me cracking up. Here’s a selection:
- “Money in the bank!” – when somebody he liked was about to shoot. They almost invariably missed.
- “No dice!” – When somebody he didn’t like was about to shoot. He was about 50% right.
- “KG’s my boy!” or some variant of this – Our friend liked Kevin Garnett. I’m sure “KG” is proud.
Anyway, he was a Sonics fan and the Celtics really started to pull ahead. At this point, our young (he looked about 22), drunk friend, who was dressed in an old puffy jacket, yelled at the winning, opposing team:
“You suck at life!”
Irony defined.

Drinking makes people stupid. Case in point. Glad you had fun at the game with your dad though!! My fave is “You suck at life”.
