A couple of terrible things happened to church members yesterday. First, a youth in Illinois was accidentally killed at a church during a youth activity. Second, a missionary in Brazil was shot during a robbery attempt. The missionary is recovering.
The story about the youth being killed at the church really makes me think how fragile our lives really are. Running with a bamboo stick doesn’t even seem that dangerous to me, unless it’s razor sharp or something. I’m sure it never crossed that young man’s mind that he might be killed while doing it.
So, how can we prevent things like that from happening to us? I doubt we really can. I think the only thing to do is appreciate each day we have and live it as completely as possible. Death is as much a part of life as anything else, so facing that reality and being as prepared for it when it comes is our best chance for happiness…except for reading things like this.
